"Chernobyl  is in the heart of Ukraine, and its shadow is all over the Earth…"

On April 26, the Center for Social and Psychological Rehabilitation of the population  in Korosten hosted the final event dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of the Chernobyl Tragedy, the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Radiation Accidents.

The SPR Center was opened for public services in 2000 under the support of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Ukraine and the UN Office in Ukraine and was then called the SPR Center  of the population and its information on overcoming the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster.

Specialists of the Center gathered to remember the most terrible catastrophe of the twentieth century - the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, which has the consequences  not only in Ukraine but also far beyond its borders.

The UN established April, 26 as the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Radiation Accidents and Disasters.

The Chernobyl accident has taught also a lesson to all mankind, showing that nuclear energy that has got out of control does not recognize borders. Unfortunately, its echo will sound for a long time and will affect more than one generation of people.

Korosten is the city most affected by the Chernobyl accident and our compatriots were also among those who went to protect our Earth from man-made disaster.

Our Center is headed by Serhiy  Vyhivsky,  the 1st category  liquidator who knows from his own experience what the Chernobyl  tragedy  and radiation is.

We must do everything  that such catastrophes never happen again in the future, and remember that Heroes are not born, they become heroes.
